The ranking is based on an independent market study conducted by the Handelsblatt Research Institute and reflects the assessment of industry peers as well as senior executives from client organisations. More than 50,000 executives and HR decision-makers who regularly work with executive search firms were surveyed. Based on these weighted responses, 40 firms were selected as the leading consultancies of 2025.

What is shaping the market today
The Handelsblatt article describes an industry in transition. Economic uncertainty has noticeably reduced executives’ willingness to change roles. Candidates assess opportunities more carefully and expect greater transparency.
As a result, the role of executive search is evolving. It is less about transactions and more about process – shaped by persuasion, context and close guidance throughout the search.
